Construction Progress

If you have been on campus lately, you might have noticed that the old parish hall is being demolished. Progress comes with a tinge of sadness over the loss of a building that served us so well, and also the excitement of a future space that allows for many new possibilities. Here are a few recent developments in the project:

• The groundbreaking ceremony took place as close to the beginning of construction as possible, based on Bishop Vasquez's availability.
• For the past few weeks, we have been waiting to get the finalized construction contract in place.
• During this time the payment and performance bond was also being put in place.
• Demolition of the old building began this week. A safety fence will be put in place around the construction zone. Some of the parking lot will be unavailable during this process.
• The City of Belton has done an initial review of our building project plans. We were informed that the city still plans to widen 24th Ave., but no timeline is in place. This information will impact our current parking plan, and we are working with a civil engineer and the city to come up with a finalized plan.
