It is now two months since I arrived at Christ the King. I am grateful for the warm and loving welcome that you extended to me from day one. That welcome speaks volumes about the vibrant life of this parish, which is well along on its faith journey. As your pastor, it is of primary importance to me to lead and accompany you on this journey, working together with the parish staff and the many volunteers who are engaged in various ministries. I need and would like to solicit your input, beginning with a Parish Life Survey at all the Masses on this weekend, September 14 & 15. The purpose of this survey is to help me and the staff gain a clearer understanding of the greatest needs of our parish community, and to begin assessing the effectiveness of our ministries and programs.
This survey, conducted in both English and Spanish by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate, a Catholic research center, will focus on key aspects of parish life such as community, worship, leadership, formation, stewardship, social justice, and evangelization. The survey will be distributed and collected in-pew during ALL the Masses. Please make every effort to attend Mass at Christ the King this weekend and fill out the survey so we can hear from you! Your input is important in helping us formulate plans for near- and longer-term parish initiatives.
It is a special privilege for me to be with you at the time when the parish is poised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding. As we look back over the past fifty years, we can let our hearts fill with gladness and gratitude for the Lord’s abundant goodness. We are also called to look forward in hope and trust to discern and participate in His plan for our future as He declared though the prophet Jeremiah:
Yes, I know what plans I have in mind for you, Yahweh declares, plans for peace, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. When you call to me and come and pray to me, I shall listen to you. JER 29: 11-12
Please join me in praying for the Holy Spirit to guide all we do to build God’s kingdom here on earth.
